Ehlers-Danlos Aotearoa Network
We are a CORE Network of Excellence for Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) in Aotearoa New Zealand. It aligns with international standards, the New Zealand Health Strategy (2023), and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, emphasising partnership, participation, and protection. The constitution also incorporates United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) standards, promoting equity, cultural responsiveness, and patient-centred care.
We are a network of registered medical professionals working to better the lives of people living with EDS/HSD by doing research, training, teaching, and collaboration.
The Network’s mission is to:
- Provide high-quality, equitable, standardised and culturally responsive care to individuals with EDS and HSD.
- Reduce diagnostic delays and improve clinical outcomes.
- Uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and UNCRPD, ensuring services are accessible to Māori, whānau, and underserved populations.
- Foster continuous improvement through a Learning Health System (LHS) model.
As all good things take time, our goal is to slowly build up expertise and knowledge throughout Aotearoa to help with our mission.
